Mombasa County Elections Preparedness

Past electoral seasons have mostly disappointed many for the socio-economic disruptions they cause, especially to businesses and investments. They interrupt critical focus on national development, scare away investments, while diverting essential resources. Instead of being progressive and transformational, Kenyan elections often scare more than inspire new generations, which is unfortunate.
As we gear up for the upcoming general elections in August 2022, the Chairman of KNCCI Mombasa Mr. Mustafa Ramadhan accompanied by members the board of directors met the County Commissioner of Mombasa Mr. John O.Otieno HSC at his office located at Uhuru na Kazi Building in Mombasa. The chairman presented concerns raised by members which include possible business disruptions during elections and ongoing campaigns. The county commissioner assured us that he has a duty of ensuring that there is security of assets and government property before, during and after elections.
As part of the Mombasa business communality, we believe that everyone has a role to play and there is still much time to make sure that the 2022 elections will be calm and civilised with minimum socio-economic disruptions.
The Chairman later gave a press briefing on the state of preparedness and emphasising that It is critical for candidates seeking various electoral positions to reaffirm their commitment to a peaceful election so that businesses get minimal disruptions as they struggle to recover from the impact of COVID-19.
